Fearless Dragon Writers' "Flat Stanley"/Jeff Brown Writing Worksheet and Activity Sheet

These writing materials tie into the beloved classic series, “Flat Stanley” by Jeff Brown. Kids LOVE reading about Stanley Lambchop (I mean, that last name alone!) and his adventures as a FLAT kid in a three-dimensional world. The dry humor involved when his parents ship him off in a giant envelope (with an egg-salad sandwich, of course)! What child can resist? And when you tie “Flat Stanley” into a writing lesson on FLAT VS. ROUND CHARACTERS, your students will have FUN while learning and inflating (I couldn’t resist!) their writing confidence!
These materials were designed to get children (ages 8 – 13) thinking about FLAT VS. ROUND CHARACTERS in writing. The goal, of course, (Flat Stanley Lambchop aside) is to create multi-dimensional, complex, interesting CHARACTERS. CHARACTERS who grow because of the conflicts they experience in the story’s plot. Those are ROUND CHARACTERS, rather than FLAT CHARACTERS, who show no growth and no dimension.

Also included here is a CHARACTER SHEET (to help students make decisions about CHARACTER DETAILS that will add dimension to their CHARACTERS); AND one THEMED ACTIVITY SHEET so your students can design their own Flat Stanleys! (Or Flat Emilys, etc.)

Have your students select their favorite Writing Choice from the Writing Worksheet! As for the Character Sheet and the Activity Sheet, they can be used pre-writing or post.
