It’s a Writing Club! It’s a Book Club! It’s Summer Fun All-Around!

The first-ever Fearless Dragon Writers’ SUMMER WRITING-BOOK CLUB: A FUN THEME-PARTY ATMOSPHERE in a BOOK CLUB centered on WRITING!

(This VIRTUAL Writing-Book Club will take place over Zoom, so you can log-in from anywhere!)

Never in her wildest dreams would foster child Nicki Demere believe her chance at a new life would come from the U.S. Marshals. A girl with a quick mind and quick fingers, Nicki’s pick-pocketing has become a nervous habit. However, these skills, and her resemblance to a woman who desperately needs Witness Protection, make Nicki the ideal candidate the U.S. Marshals need to protect this woman and her family.

The Marshals are betting that adding Nicki to the family’s headcount will help keep this family hidden, as the criminals are looking for a family of three, not four. Nicki agrees, and soon finds herself renamed “Charlotte,” living in North Carolina, navigating a new life—one that involves learning the ropes of a new school, a new neighborhood, with new family and friends--all while finally discovering a true sense of belonging. Could all of this be at risk when someone from Nicki/Charlotte’s past unexpectedly enters her new world?

We will read this delicious page-turner for fun, while viewing the author’s words through the eyes of a writer: What makes Burt’s writing sparkle? How are his characters so fully formed? And, most importantly, how can you add those skills (and more) to your own writing?

FOR CHILDREN, AGES 9 – 14.

READING: Chapters will be assigned ahead to be read outside of class. In class, we will explore the assigned chapters together through inspiring discussion questions.

WRITING: Then, the children can choose to write from a FUN and CREATIVE Fearless Dragon Writer Worksheet, or from their own imaginations! After we write together online, we will share our stories aloud--entertaining and educating each other.

GAMES: Each session ends with writing games!

WE WILL MEET ON ZOOM: For 5 Thursdays: July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22 and July 29.

TIME: 4:00 P.M. – 5:45 P.M. EST.

MATERIALS: After you register, you will receive one copy of the book: “Greetings From Witness Protection!” by Jake Burt, a writing notebook, a Fearless Dragon Writer t-shirt (if you don’t already own one), and a small giveaway surprise! (All weekly writing worksheets will be emailed prior to each session.)

REGISTRATION FEE: $195.00/per child (includes all 5 Zoom sessions and all necessary materials).
